There are oil trees on the oil fields
With branches that span generations
They have hedge like mentalities
That are detrimental to this nation
Oil trees like mangroves
Along the Caroni Swamp
Heart rooted and expansive
They keep good workers out
There are oil trees on the oil fields
Growing in patches all around
Making paper like bamboo to
Cover secrets that are found
Good tree house material
Hosting entire families
There are oil trees on our oil fields
Which sabotage economy
These oil trees are quite clever
And like parasites they feed
On the resources of this nation
With blatant acts, of personal greed
The country’s profit is not their aim
Nepotism and cronyism sprouts
So for the safety of our oil yields
We must root these oil trees out
